How many women who work wanted to ask for remote or flexible work but didn’t dare ask their boss because at that time it didn’t seem feasible?
Or how many DID ask BUT they didn’t ask for all they wanted?
A common feminine trait I’ve seen is our willingness for accommodation.
Ask yourself this:
BEFORE asking for what matters the most, do you repeatedly role play the conversation? In your own head or with others?
You are 100% brave in YOUR dedication to negotiating the full options?
The outcome of that private meeting is this:
You end up accommodating your boss WITHOUT giving them the chance of participation!
YOU negotiate yourself DOWN.
To your 2nd, 3rd, 4th option?
You then go and ask for THAT option and YES, you GET IT!
Boss: “I am amazing“
You: “YES! I DID it! I’m a badass!”
Until... this only dawns on you when in practice.
You realise you only went and got what you actually DIDN’T want!
You are secretly seething and your boss? HERO!
LEARN to ask for what you want and NOT for what you THINK is possible.
Covid19 leadership has shown what IS possible for the work place of the future.
Just because something hasn’t been done before doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
